A good iron with no stinkin' cord5
I really don't like to iron. And I hate appliances/tools in which the cord is always in the way or catching on things. I've gone to great lengths to get cordless everything. I've used 5 or 6 irons in my day, some old, some new, all with cords. I had a nice corded iron that worked well, but fell apart. I've never been enamored with the steam function of any iron I've owned.

Received this iron as a gift from my wife who was tired of me wearing wrinkled clothes. Perfect timing as I had left a load of shirts and slacks in the dryer too long, and I was moping because they were all severely wrinkled, and had been sitting in a laundry basket for a month. Filled the iron with water, plugged it in, set the temp to HIGH, and 2 minutes or so later was ready to go.

It worked great. Very smooth ironing surface and wonderful steam sytem. I set the steam to maximum, and it worked very well. Same with MEDIUM setting on my poly blends; worked great. I accidently ironed a heavy silk shirt on MEDIUM, and no problems, scorches or blemmishes.

And no problem with the iron cooling between visits to the base, which I set on a table behind and right of me, in easy reach. It seemed to take about 15 seconds on the base to fully reheat, based on a slight click that I think was the thermostat shutting the coils off. I tried to measure the cooling over 2 minutes while on HIGH, but the iron was too hot for my BBQ fork to measure, even after 5 minutes off the base; the iron was still producing steam too. That seems hot to me.

But the best thing: no cord. Nothing to catch on things, nothing in the way of where I want to iron, nothing to constantly move. If you don't mind cords, by all means, buy a corded iron. If you don't like them, I'd recommend this iron. I now dislike ironing a little less.

Couldnt ask for better5
I recently bought this for our house as a replacement. I figured somehow it came with batteries and you just kept it on the charger. I was kinda worried about this knowing that some batteries gain a memory after several charges.

The iron is COMPLETELY different. It is cordless BUT you keep it on the dock while the dock in plugged in and it heats the iron for you. No charge no nothing. Instead of setting the traditional iron down while you move your garment around, you place it back on the dock, and it continues to heat it up! It also has a removable water reservoir so you don't have to pour water all over the iron. Perfect for us messy people. Once your done, push the cord back into the dock and place the heat resistant cover back on and BAM! your done. It protects the iron and you so you don't get burned while its cooling off. Great for travel as well. I recommend this for everyone. It was money well spent and heats everything evenly and nice. If anything happens to this one, I'm going to be buying this one again!!

Customer Reviews

Very pleased with this iron!5
I've been using my Panasonic cordless iron for about 6 months now and am entirely pleased with the performance. The iron heats up fast and will keep a high heat for a few minutes until it requires a quick reheating in the base. The steam pressure is surprisingly strong although the water capacity is not large. If you have a lot of ironing you may refill the container more than once - but this is easy since it is removable and doesn't leak when replaced. The convenience of not having the cord in the way far outweighs any limitations this iron may have, such as the small water capacity or the fact that it cannot reheat itself while you are ironing.

People have commented on the iron not keeping its heat long enough. I don't have a problem since I ALWAYS place the iron on the base when I am not actually ironing. This will keep it hot continuously. The technique is you iron until the steam starts to weaken, then set the iron on the base for 20 or 30 seconds while you are turning or adjusting the garment on the ironing board. So it's not necessary to waste time entirely in order to keep the iron hot.

The smooth-gliding stainless steel sole place is a deluxe, durable feature and the iron (as most Panasonic products) is built to last. The plastic cover with carrying handle fits well and securely. Perhaps veteran ironers with years of experience, and who don't get the cords tangled may prefer an old fashioned steam iron. But if the cord always gets in your way and slows you down to the point of irritation, you won't regret spending the price for this iron.

Pricey, but worth it5
After several laundries ruined my custom made dress shirts, I decided to wash/iron my own. I hadn't ironed anything is fifteen years, and dreaded the prospect. However, this Panasonic cordless works so well it is actually tolerable! The design, functionality, packaging and features are excellent. Highly recommended.

Once you go cordless you will never go back!5
I just had a baby! I was worried about him pulling on the cord and the iron landing on him! I look at all the cordless iron and pick this one because of all the thing it does. The cord is in the base not the iron itself. The cord automatic retractable into the base. This is great because you do not need to worry about it being in the way!
The iron has three setting Low, Med, High. On the base it tell you which setting to use for what fabric.
I love the easy to fill water tank! You just push a button, pull out the tank, fill the tank, and slide it back in, there you have it! No more spills! Awesome!!! It has a auto-shut off in 10 min. The iron light will say off when to turn off, with the other irons you can tell if it off until you go to use it. Water go everywhere!!! I also love that this iron does not leak everywhere! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the heat-resistant carrying case! You can put it way still hot, just put the top on and put it way!!! You do not need to worry about burning anything!!!! That is great! You can leave it on the counter with the top on too! I also like that the case transparent the other iron are solid. I like that you can see the iron it looks better to me. This iron is great for travel too! We take it on a trip it works great!!!!
It have a 2-for-1 with Jet-of-Steam and Self-Cleaning too!
On the website it say this: (Stainless Steel Soleplate)
"With a series of round indentations that trap pockets of air between the soleplate and the fabric, the iron glides smoothly and effortlessly."

Has you can see I love this Iron!!!!!
I would say that you need to go by what the base says about what setting to use because, if it is to hot for the fabric it will stick!

GREAT IRON!5
I have had this iron for over 2 years and I LOVE IT! It heats up very quickly, does a great job ironing , has a detachable water chamber for steam, and no cord to get in the way! After 2 years of almost every day use the plate is still perfectly clean and ironing is (almost) a pleasure :)

Ironing is my obsession!!5
Well, not my obsession but, I do iron everything that I wear. My wife isn't the one that does it...I do. Anyway, I am a perfectionist and have been searching for the best iron. Well, I have found it in the Panasonic NI-L46NR. First of all cordless is the only way to go. I got my first cordless iron a couple of years ago as a present from my sister and thought this is great and it was for about 2 months, then it started leaking terribly and I tried to deal with it for awhile and finally couldn't take it anymore so into the trash can it went. I went back to a corded iron and was satified with it but that darn cord kept getting in the way. My search began again and found the Panasonic NI-L46NR read a bunch of reviews and thought this is the one. It was very reasonably priced and so I ordered it online thru Amazon.com. I received it within a week after ordering it and couldn't wait to crank it up and see if it was really as good as all of the reviews. It was and it still is!! It heats up very quickly and get extremly hot which in my opinion is one of the big factors in quality ironing. The steam function is the best I have ever used...costant steam when wanted, super powerful steam bursts with a touch of a button. The unit is very light and extremely functional. Cords be gone..Thank you Panasonic!!!

Great Little Iron5
This is a great little iron. Very lightweight but irons like a pro. Heats and reheats quickly. The shot of steam function is powerful and I love not having to mess with a cord. I use this iron both for clothing and when quilting. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews

Nice Iron!5
So far I've used this on pattern paper and several different types of fabric. It has a nice weight that you can allow to do most of the work for you, and it has a wonderful grip. It is fairly easy to fill the tank, and if you use a 3/4 cup measure to do it, you'll be just under Max - the tank is just over 6 oz.

It glides beautifully over my fabric, though I had to be a little careful with the paper, since this iron is fairly well weighted. It has both a spray button and a steam button, and a simple switch between dry, some steam, lots of steam.

The retractable cord is a wonderful thing and works very well. Blessed thing to have when there are curious animals that like to chew on cords or anything string-like. Makes for neat storage, too!

Heats quickly, and reheats quickly if it has shut itself off. It gives you 10 minutes if it is in the upright position, so that is plenty fine.

I love this iron!

At last, I hope4
This is my 3rd iron in 6 months. I have had this iron for about 1 1/2 months so I am still waiting to see if it holds up. So far so good. My first iron was a B&D Digital2030 iron. Lasted 4 months and quit. Handle got hot and iron would turn on to Setting 1 after it was turned off. 2nd iron was a Shark brand. Didn't work from day one. Would only turn on if you unplugged the cord and then replugged. Returned that. So far, this iron is performing great. For a 1200watt iron it produced a lot of steam even without pushing the burst of steam button. I iron all my husband's work/dress shirts and need an iron that is adequate for cotton. The titanium coated soleplate is nice, but I do prefer SS. The tip of the iron is the best I have had so far. It is quite pointed and really gets into tight spaces. I sew quite a lot and this is great for pressing out corners. I purchased the titanium soleplate because of fusibles that I work with and need to be able to remove it. So far so good. The retractable cord is a nice feature although my iron is up and ready all the time. The cord c/b a little longer, but is probably limited because it is retractable. It does work nicely. The base of the iron is not too heavy (as it looks)and stands on the base really well. For the steam it produces, the amount of water it uses is remarkable. You don't need to fill it constantly, and it is fairly easy to fill. Didn't see the need for a removable water resevoir. A word of caution though - the iron needs to go thru several sessions to remove whatever is inside it. There was a slight fragrance the first few times I used it and it did deposit an oily (?)spot which came out easily on my white shirts. It did go away and now is fine. All in all, I recommend this iron. If it doesn't hold up I will come back and update my review. I do not recommend DIGITAL IRONS. I don't think the technology is there yet especially if you sew and leave your iron on a lot.

Great Iron for fusible4
Selected for it's titanium soleplate which cleans easily if you get fusible web fused onto it instead of fabric or the ironing board cover. Nice and light weight. Turns itself off, but reheats quickly.

Great iron 5
Very nice iron - especially for the price I paid on Amazon.com. Has a removable water tank which makes it easier to fill without making a mess. Nice, very polished stainless steel soleplate which glides easily over clothes. Has an anti-calcium system to prevent buildup caused by hard water which can block the steam system. Another nice feature is the power cord retractor - which works very well.

Effective but heavy, and not for left-handers!3
At the moment I have three cheap, tired old irons on my laundry-room countertop. I am about to get rid of them. I bought this one, the Panasonic NI-78SR, because of the positive reviews, taking into account various issues concerning the detachable water tank.

I am very pleased with the efficiency of the iron -- the heat levels and steam output work very well, and I have pretty high standards. I realize that the weight of the iron might contribute to its overall effectiveness, but it's a tad heavy.

I agree with the reviewer who expressed reservations about the detachable water tank -- seems like it's just another moving part that could get worn out. Have been filling irons from a cup for close to 50 years -- and lately have been using one that has a spout on it. I don't see any advantage to messing around with a detachable tank.

The biggest drawback to the iron is that the retractable cord (which to me is totally unnecessary, although some might like it) extends from the iron base from the right! Today's irons rarely are designed this way. I'm left-handed, and find myself beating back the cord so it doesn't get in my way. Just for the heck of it, I tried ironing with my right hand, and it's almost as annoying. Panasonic should take into consideration that even in the same household, both right- and left-handed users might need the iron.

The retractable cord base isn't very stable, and the iron wobbles when seated on end.

Fine iron, affordable price5
I bought this iron to replace an old Panasonic iron with a retractable cord.

First, I'm absolutely sold on having a retractable cord. Besides the fact that this iron works very well, the retractable cord is the main reason I've stuck with Panasonic. It makes storing the iron so much easier. I leave my ironing board up, in a spare room, and keep the iron (upright) on the board when I'm not using it. I don't have to worry about the cord unwrapping and one of our cats getting a hold of it. The retracting mechanism works very well; it worked quite well on the old one, but they've obviously improved it on this new one.

This iron creates a lot of steam, which I like because it easily gets all wrinkles out, even on very creased clothes that you left in the dryer much too long. Besides being usable as a normal steam iron it is usable vertically in steam mode so that you can get wrinkles out of hanging clothes.

The removable water tank is also a nice feature. The iron is the right weight (it has some heft but isn't too heavy; or worse, too light). I also like the stainless steel soleplate; I prefer that to a supposedly non-stick surface, which usually isn't.

I haven't found anything I don't like about this iron, and the price is right. It works better and has more features than many irons much more expensive.
