Amazon.com Product Description
Steam out wrinkles quickly and easily with this 1200-watt iron. The unit's titanium-coated curved soleplate provides smooth, gentle gliding, while its temperature ranges from 176 to 392 degrees F to accommodate a variety of different fabrics. The iron's jet-of-steam function delivers a powerful burst of steam to help remove stubborn wrinkles (or to help clean the steam vents), and its push-button micro spray mist makes smaller particles and spreads it evenly over a wider area for faster results. The iron also offers adjustable steam settings for heavier fabrics or simple touch-ups, as well as a "dry" setting for no steam output. To ensure safety, its mercury-free electronic sensor automatically shuts off the iron after 10 minutes if left in the upright position and after 60 seconds if left unmoved on its soleplate or if tipped over on its side. Other highlights include a 6-ounce water tank, a large water window, an ergonomic rubber-grip handle, an anti-calcium system, and an automatic retractable cord reel for tidy cord storage. Best Iron Ever!!!5
I have gone through numerous irons and purchased a model from this line several years ago. LOVED IT. Had to buy a new one and could not find exact same model but this one seems to be the same, just newer. We have been using it for about a month and it is even better. We iron daily and I sew. Was making drapes when old one quit working. It is the best.

Now, the flip side is that you almost cannot see the water filling and have to be careful. They could design that much better. And, for some reason, it took Amazon forever to ship this item. But I would not have any other iron and it is worth the wait.

So Far So Good4
This seems to be a pretty nice iron for the price. Nice pointed end to get in those tight corners, heats up fast, nice steam action and the retracting cord is definitely a plus. I just wonder how long it will hold up. So far it's a pretty nice item.

Why is Ironing Still Necessary?4
Bought this iron, the reviews were good. I've only used it a couple of times. It definitely gets the wrinkles out and I like the steam button. I've been very careful of the plastic cap on the water fill area as some said it broke easily. It was heavier than I thought it would be as someone had said it was light. However I had a Black and Decker Light and Easy before and it was very light. I had that for years but the new ones did not have great reviews. So far I am happy with the purchase.

Go full steam ahead on tough ironing chores with this 1,500-watt iron from Rowenta. A cord-reel mechanism retracts the power cord at the touch of a button. A large 8-1/2-ounce, transparent water tank means fewer refills and a clear view of water level, so there's no running out of steam in the middle of a job. A newly designed stainless steel soleplate ensures a smooth glide and corrosion resistance. The soleplate's profiled tip with holes carries steam to the edge of the iron for better results in tight areas such as inseams. The DX1900 comes with an anti-drip function that works by delaying steam production until the iron is at just the right temperature. An anti-calcium mechanism protects prevents lime and scale build up for long lasting steam performance. For safety, Rowenta designed this iron with a 3-way "smart" auto-off switch that automatically turns off the iron in 8 minutes if left vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally, and 30 seconds if tipped over. Reliability?3
This iron is great... when it works. I loved mine but it broke within two weeks. It stopped heating up at all. I was extremely disappointed since I thought I was buying a high-quality iron. Rowenta did replace the iron at no cost; however, it took three weeks which is a long time to be without an iron. I really hope my new one keeps working because it is a great iron that heats up fast and makes ALOT of steam.

Awesome! Definitely the best iron around!5
If you're looking for a heavy grade professional iron that will glide over your clothes knocking out all your wrinkles, this is the iron. This iron has reduced my ironing time by at least 30-40%. The easy gliding ability of this iron topped with it's ability to smooth out those wrinkles in usually one pass without constant pressure or repeated passes over the same area make this a true pleasure to use. The only one area of concern that seems to bother others but didn't concern me is the power cord is fairly heavy grade, making is different from probably your current iron, however it hasn't presented any obstacles for me.

Hefty iron, sturdy power cord5
I had previously owned a Rowenta P2 commercial iron, which appeared to be an early incarnation of the 890DM. There were reports of the power cord going bad due to the design, and I think that's how my P2 died. The iron would suddenly stop heating, sometime a whack on the bottom would bring it back, but it was very unpredicatable. An internal fraying of the power cord connector would explain this behavior: no current draw to the heating elements.

With the 890DM Rowenta appeared to have fixed this, evident by the thicker power cord that so many people complained about. It is a hefty cord, about 9-10mm in diameter, more like a computer power cable than your typical household appliance power cord. It still connects at the base of the handle through a flexible plastic tubing that keeps the cord straight up and away from the handle. I have not found this cable to be a nuisance in ironing, and if this design change prevents an early Rowenta death, I'm all for it.

Everything else is as excellent as ever, Rowenta owners can atest to this. The DM890 weighs nearly 5 lbs., making it efforless to glide and not have to press down. Inox steel prevents bottom stickage, the handle steam control buttons are well-designed. It heats up fast and can get really really hot at 1750W. In the $90 - $100 price range this is one of the most expensive irons you can buy. The only thing I had before my P2 was a small Black & Decker, so I don't have extensive experience to compare. I can say that once I've owned a Rowenta, that's it, I'll never go back to buying anything else, even if my old P2 did die early.

This is a Great Iron5
The steam produced by this iron doesn't leave anything to be desired. I really like the features and the quality of this appliancve. The steam feature is excellent for all fabrics and it goes fast where you have to easily refill it for any large amount of ironing at one time. A really "Professional" Professional Iron. You will not be sorry if you purchased one.

Great compact steamer.4
I think this machine is great. First off, it's nice and compact. Your able to hide the power cord underneath the base of the unit, the hose easily wraps around the top portion and the head of the steamer slides into place so it's not dangling off the unit. Included in the box is a storage bag for your attachments, so you don't lose them. I used this just last night to steam a sueded slip cover for a couch that's been in a bag for over 2 years and it worked like a dream, it took out every wrinkle. It heated up very quickly and produced enough steam to get out any wrinkle. It did get a tad hot around the head of the steamer if you kept your hand there too long, also it makes a gurgling noise as it heats up, but that dissipates after it's up and running. Other than that, it's a great item. I would totally buy another one. If I may dispense some advice (I worked in retail for several years and worked with professional steamers on a daily basis. If you have light garments like silks, cover the steamer head with a knee hi or stocking to protect the garment from oversteaming whatever elements are in the water and always steam from the inside of your garment - never on the outside. Rowenta is a really good name and usually produce good quality items. I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews. I guess you take a chance on everything you buy.

A Great Steam Generator and Iron !!5
I had read all about the problems of the Rowenta 5030 series Steam Generator. it seems that the Rowenta Engineers read the complaints, too. The 8030 Unit is their answer. A superb Generator where the water level is visible, easy to fill and re-fill, much lighter in weight than my old Rowenta Professional Iron and, boy, does it pour out the steam! It sits easily on my older ironing board, has a 12 foot electrical cord and a 6 foot elect./steam line attaching the iron to the generator. It has a very short wait time to began ironing/steaming and the clothing comes out pressed as if done at a local dry cleaning place. I love the unit and highly recommend it to anyone who hates to iron. This unit will put a smile on your face.

Works well but not worth the $?3
I ordered the expert version, since there were so many issues with the 5030. It works well - heats up really quickly, you can see water level and it has a warning light on water level anyway. You can also refill without having to wait for the iron to cool. The long cords are handy. This was my first experience with a steam generator iron and honestly, while it works fine, it is/was a lot of money and doesn't seem all that much of an improvement over a conventional steam iron. The vertical steaming doesn't work too well. After holding the trigger for a few seconds, the amount of steam drops off significantly - not really enough for efficient vertical steaming.

Feel like a pro at home5
First off, I wouldn't even consider using this iron with one of the flimsy supermarket ironing boards....something like the Rowenta IB6300 is much more in order, (it also has a shelf to place the reservoir, very handy).

Now on to the actual review. We've only had this iron for a couple of weeks, if I experience any nasty longevity issues, I'll be sure to address them with updates to this review.

Wow, this iron/steam generator is making ironing less of a chore. We'd previously owned the Rowenta Perfect and Advancer irons, both of which my wife sent on one way trips to a hardwood floor, (while the floor survived with large gouges, the irons, unfortunately, did not). After being spoiled with the Rowenta brand, and needing a replacement, we opted for the DG8030.

This thing is pricey! If I didn't require a large amount of clothes ironed, I'd be more tempted to just take everything to the cleaners. We bit the bullet and haven't looked back since. Ironing creases used to take time and a determined effort. Now it's just a quick pull on the steam button, and you're in business. Need to iron out or adjust a crease? Too easy! I can't vouch for using this vertical with drapes/blinds, but for uniforms and dress clothes, I haven't seen better. Combined with a quality ironing board, (as mentioned above), I've cut down my ironing time by more than half.

I especially liked the large reservoir and the fact that you can refill it without waiting for the iron to cool down. If you iron often and can manage the price tag, this is it.

Customer Reviews

Looking for a professional iron, this is the one5
I am a professional seamstress, handweaver and I iron fabric off and on all day, every day, five days a week.
I have bought many irons in my 30 years in business. And have paid large sums of money for some of them.
This iron is the best all around iron on the market today. I don't say that lightly either. It does pull more power with it's heavy duty electric cord, I expect my electric bill will go up slightly now that I use this exclusively on my fabrics..... But the finished product is so much nicer and I get the professional finish I want to have on my handwovens. The added cost is worth the finished product.

Best one yet...5
I quilt and sew daily and use this iron constantly. It is remarkable. Steam when and where I want it and in the quantity I need. I've had several expensive irons, but none came close to this one. And - no annoying "auto shut-off" when I don't want/expect it. The large size water tank is a benefit too.

Amazon.com Review
Serious quilters and sewing professionals know the benefits of having a high-quality iron, especially one with an extra-large water tank that needs refilling less often. Made in Germany with comfort and technology hand in hand, the Rowenta features a soft-grip handle, ideal for this large, heavier-weight iron; a transparent 12.7-ounce water tank with a sliding cover over the fill hole and anti-drip system; and a burst of steam that lasts longer and is forcibly shot into stubborn fabric wrinkles. The iron’s soleplate is polished stainless steel that will never chip or peel. Other functions include spray, variable steam, and steam-free ironing, as well as vertical ironing for drapes.

Safety is a high priority for Rowenta. This iron shuts off automatically under three different circumstances: after eight minutes of standing vertically without use, and after 30 seconds if left flat on the soleplate or if it has toppled over on its side. A lift or gentle shake reactivates the iron and a light comes on indicating the iron is in use. The iron also features a flexible cord mount for easy maneuverability and an anti-slip frame for stability. Rowenta covers the iron with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Customer Reviews

I think this is a fabulous iron...5
I have to admit before buying this iron I had the same old clanking cheesy iron I had used for 10 years ...that is when I used it. I usually just rewashed something rather than dragging that awful iron out....

It felt odd buying such an expensive iron (and I paid $10 more than amazon is charging) when I wasnt sure I would use it but I knew there had to be a better way... I have had it for six months and have had no mechanical issues. I see there are reviews with some various issues - I guess every single mechanical item has some individual lemons that come off the line ...it happens. Also unhappy customers are much more likely to voice their opinions that satisfied ones...

First let me say that yes, its heavier than cheaper irons but I think this actually helps 'press' out the wrinkles and pushing it back and forth isnt an issue for me with the weight - and I am not bench pressing it. However, if you need a light iron because you have minimal hand strength this wouldnt be a good choice. It holds a boat-load of water so you aren't filling it all the time. I just LOVE that. You can vary the steam and there is an auto-clean feature using the steam. The iron is also meant to use tap water, not anything special...

I have to say I iron now - and unlike my last iron where I would have to make pass after pass to get out a wrinkle, with this iron usually one pass is enough on regular weight clothes so ironing is actually quicker.

Rowenta is a very good quality name and a long standing company known for great irons... will every single iron come off the assembly line absolute perfection? probably not but I feel sure it is the individual iron and not the whole line because I think this has been a trouble free and great iron.

I love my new Rowenta iron! 5
This is my third Rowenta iron and each one is more improved than the last. What I love about the DX-8800 is the larger water tank and the weight of the iron. I use steam a lot and hardly have to fill up the tank. The heaviness of it makes ironing easier. I also like that it has a strong burst of steam and the vertical steam option. The cost of it is higher than most, but I feel is well worth it. I hope to use it for many years to come. I would strongly recommend this iron to anyone.
