Steam out wrinkles quickly and easily with this 1200-watt iron. The unit's titanium-coated curved soleplate provides smooth, gentle gliding, while its temperature ranges from 176 to 392 degrees F to accommodate a variety of different fabrics. The iron's jet-of-steam function delivers a powerful burst of steam to help remove stubborn wrinkles (or to help clean the steam vents), and its push-button micro spray mist makes smaller particles and spreads it evenly over a wider area for faster results. The iron also offers adjustable steam settings for heavier fabrics or simple touch-ups, as well as a "dry" setting for no steam output. To ensure safety, its mercury-free electronic sensor automatically shuts off the iron after 10 minutes if left in the upright position and after 60 seconds if left unmoved on its soleplate or if tipped over on its side. Best Iron Ever!!!5
I have gone through numerous irons and purchased a model from this line several years ago. LOVED IT. Had to buy a new one and could not find exact same model but this one seems to be the same, just newer. We have been using it for about a month and it is even better. We iron daily and I sew. Was making drapes when old one quit working. It is the best.

Now, the flip side is that you almost cannot see the water filling and have to be careful. They could design that much better. And, for some reason, it took Amazon forever to ship this item. But I would not have any other iron and it is worth the wait.

So Far So Good4
This seems to be a pretty nice iron for the price. Nice pointed end to get in those tight corners, heats up fast, nice steam action and the retracting cord is definitely a plus. I just wonder how long it will hold up. So far it's a pretty nice item.

Why is Ironing Still Necessary?4
Bought this iron, the reviews were good. I've only used it a couple of times. It definitely gets the wrinkles out and I like the steam button. I've been very careful of the plastic cap on the water fill area as some said it broke easily. It was heavier than I thought it would be as someone had said it was light. However I had a Black and Decker Light and Easy before and it was very light. I had that for years but the new ones did not have great reviews. So far I am happy with the purchase.

Amazon.com Review
Go full steam ahead on tough ironing chores with this 1,500-watt iron from Rowenta. A cord-reel mechanism retracts the power cord at the touch of a button. A large 8-1/2-ounce, transparent water tank means fewer refills and a clear view of water level, so there's no running out of steam in the middle of a job. A newly designed stainless steel soleplate ensures a smooth glide and corrosion resistance. The soleplate's profiled tip with holes carries steam to the edge of the iron for better results in tight areas such as inseams. The DX1900 comes with an anti-drip function that works by delaying steam production until the iron is at just the right temperature. An anti-calcium mechanism protects prevents lime and scale build up for long lasting steam performance. For safety, Rowenta designed this iron with a 3-way "smart" auto-off switch that automatically turns off the iron in 8 minutes if left vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally, and 30 seconds if tipped over. Plus, the unit is equipped with a comfort handle and soft touch grips for non-slip grip and ironing. Brian Olson

Reliability?3
This iron is great... when it works. I loved mine but it broke within two weeks. It stopped heating up at all. I was extremely disappointed since I thought I was buying a high-quality iron. Rowenta did replace the iron at no cost; however, it took three weeks which is a long time to be without an iron. I really hope my new one keeps working because it is a great iron that heats up fast and makes ALOT of steam.

Customer Reviews

Awesome! Definitely the best iron around!5
If you're looking for a heavy grade professional iron that will glide over your clothes knocking out all your wrinkles, this is the iron. This iron has reduced my ironing time by at least 30-40%. The easy gliding ability of this iron topped with it's ability to smooth out those wrinkles in usually one pass without constant pressure or repeated passes over the same area make this a true pleasure to use. The only one area of concern that seems to bother others but didn't concern me is the power cord is fairly heavy grade, making is different from probably your current iron, however it hasn't presented any obstacles for me.

Hefty iron, sturdy power cord5
I had previously owned a Rowenta P2 commercial iron, which appeared to be an early incarnation of the 890DM. There were reports of the power cord going bad due to the design, and I think that's how my P2 died. The iron would suddenly stop heating, sometime a whack on the bottom would bring it back, but it was very unpredicatable. An internal fraying of the power cord connector would explain this behavior: no current draw to the heating elements.

With the 890DM Rowenta appeared to have fixed this, evident by the thicker power cord that so many people complained about. It is a hefty cord, about 9-10mm in diameter, more like a computer power cable than your typical household appliance power cord. It still connects at the base of the handle through a flexible plastic tubing that keeps the cord straight up and away from the handle. I have not found this cable to be a nuisance in ironing, and if this design change prevents an early Rowenta death, I'm all for it.

Everything else is as excellent as ever, Rowenta owners can atest to this. The DM890 weighs nearly 5 lbs., making it efforless to glide and not have to press down. Inox steel prevents bottom stickage, the handle steam control buttons are well-designed. It heats up fast and can get really really hot at 1750W. In the $90 - $100 price range this is one of the most expensive irons you can buy. The only thing I had before my P2 was a small Black & Decker, so I don't have extensive experience to compare. I can say that once I've owned a Rowenta, that's it, I'll never go back to buying anything else, even if my old P2 did die early.

This is a Great Iron5
The steam produced by this iron doesn't leave anything to be desired. I really like the features and the quality of this appliancve. The steam feature is excellent for all fabrics and it goes fast where you have to easily refill it for any large amount of ironing at one time. A really "Professional" Professional Iron. You will not be sorry if you purchased one.

Customer Reviews

Great compact steamer.4
I think this machine is great. First off, it's nice and compact. Your able to hide the power cord underneath the base of the unit, the hose easily wraps around the top portion and the head of the steamer slides into place so it's not dangling off the unit. Included in the box is a storage bag for your attachments, so you don't lose them. I used this just last night to steam a sueded slip cover for a couch that's been in a bag for over 2 years and it worked like a dream, it took out every wrinkle. It heated up very quickly and produced enough steam to get out any wrinkle. It did get a tad hot around the head of the steamer if you kept your hand there too long, also it makes a gurgling noise as it heats up, but that dissipates after it's up and running. Other than that, it's a great item. I would totally buy another one. If I may dispense some advice (I worked in retail for several years and worked with professional steamers on a daily basis. If you have light garments like silks, cover the steamer head with a knee hi or stocking to protect the garment from oversteaming whatever elements are in the water and always steam from the inside of your garment - never on the outside. Rowenta is a really good name and usually produce good quality items. I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews. I guess you take a chance on everything you buy.

Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator

Product Description

Founded in Germany in 1884, Rowenta has a long history of innovation. In 1912, they manufactured their first iron, paving the way for a position today as the world's largest producer of irons. In 1949, Rowenta launched the first iron with temperature control, followed by the first steam iron in 1957- an innovation that would change garment care forever. Throughout their history, technology and innovation have always been at the forefront of product design. Rowenta's new DG8030 Expert Steam Generator is an ironing system for the home that provides commercial results. Available at the touch of a button and on demand, the powerful pressurized steam penetrates quicker and deeper into fabric, providing professional quality ironing without much effort. Customer Reviews

A Great Steam Generator and Iron !!5
I had read all about the problems of the Rowenta 5030 series Steam Generator. it seems that the Rowenta Engineers read the complaints, too. The 8030 Unit is their answer. A superb Generator where the water level is visible, easy to fill and re-fill, much lighter in weight than my old Rowenta Professional Iron and, boy, does it pour out the steam! It sits easily on my older ironing board, has a 12 foot electrical cord and a 6 foot elect./steam line attaching the iron to the generator. It has a very short wait time to began ironing/steaming and the clothing comes out pressed as if done at a local dry cleaning place. I love the unit and highly recommend it to anyone who hates to iron. This unit will put a smile on your face.

Works well but not worth the $?3
I ordered the expert version, since there were so many issues with the 5030. It works well - heats up really quickly, you can see water level and it has a warning light on water level anyway. You can also refill without having to wait for the iron to cool. The long cords are handy. This was my first experience with a steam generator iron and honestly, while it works fine, it is/was a lot of money and doesn't seem all that much of an improvement over a conventional steam iron. The vertical steaming doesn't work too well. After holding the trigger for a few seconds, the amount of steam drops off significantly - not really enough for efficient vertical steaming.

Feel like a pro at home5
First off, I wouldn't even consider using this iron with one of the flimsy supermarket ironing boards....something like the Rowenta IB6300 is much more in order, (it also has a shelf to place the reservoir, very handy).

Now on to the actual review. We've only had this iron for a couple of weeks, if I experience any nasty longevity issues, I'll be sure to address them with updates to this review.

Wow, this iron/steam generator is making ironing less of a chore. We'd previously owned the Rowenta Perfect and Advancer irons, both of which my wife sent on one way trips to a hardwood floor, (while the floor survived with large gouges, the irons, unfortunately, did not). After being spoiled with the Rowenta brand, and needing a replacement, we opted for the DG8030.

This thing is pricey! If I didn't require a large amount of clothes ironed, I'd be more tempted to just take everything to the cleaners. We bit the bullet and haven't looked back since. Ironing creases used to take time and a determined effort. Now it's just a quick pull on the steam button, and you're in business. Need to iron out or adjust a crease? Too easy! I can't vouch for using this vertical with drapes/blinds, but for uniforms and dress clothes, I haven't seen better. Combined with a quality ironing board, (as mentioned above), I've cut down my ironing time by more than half.

I especially liked the large reservoir and the fact that you can refill it without waiting for the iron to cool down. If you iron often and can manage the price tag, this is it.

Customer Reviews

Looking for a professional iron, this is the one5
I am a professional seamstress, handweaver and I iron fabric off and on all day, every day, five days a week.
I have bought many irons in my 30 years in business. And have paid large sums of money for some of them.
This iron is the best all around iron on the market today. I don't say that lightly either. It does pull more power with it's heavy duty electric cord, I expect my electric bill will go up slightly now that I use this exclusively on my fabrics..... But the finished product is so much nicer and I get the professional finish I want to have on my handwovens. The added cost is worth the finished product.

Best one yet...5
I quilt and sew daily and use this iron constantly. It is remarkable. Steam when and where I want it and in the quantity I need. I've had several expensive irons, but none came close to this one. And - no annoying "auto shut-off" when I don't want/expect it. The large size water tank is a benefit too.

Amazon.com Review
Serious quilters and sewing professionals know the benefits of having a high-quality iron, especially one with an extra-large water tank that needs refilling less often. Made in Germany with comfort and technology hand in hand, the Rowenta features a soft-grip handle, ideal for this large, heavier-weight iron; a transparent 12.7-ounce water tank with a sliding cover over the fill hole and anti-drip system; and a burst of steam that lasts longer and is forcibly shot into stubborn fabric wrinkles. The iron’s soleplate is polished stainless steel that will never chip or peel. Other functions include spray, variable steam, and steam-free ironing, as well as vertical ironing for drapes.

Safety is a high priority for Rowenta. This iron shuts off automatically under three different circumstances: after eight minutes of standing vertically without use, and after 30 seconds if left flat on the soleplate or if it has toppled over on its side. A lift or gentle shake reactivates the iron and a light comes on indicating the iron is in use. The iron also features a flexible cord mount for easy maneuverability and an anti-slip frame for stability. Rowenta covers the iron with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Customer Reviews

I think this is a fabulous iron...5
I have to admit before buying this iron I had the same old clanking cheesy iron I had used for 10 years ...that is when I used it. I usually just rewashed something rather than dragging that awful iron out....

It felt odd buying such an expensive iron (and I paid $10 more than amazon is charging) when I wasnt sure I would use it but I knew there had to be a better way... I have had it for six months and have had no mechanical issues. I see there are reviews with some various issues - I guess every single mechanical item has some individual lemons that come off the line ...it happens. Also unhappy customers are much more likely to voice their opinions that satisfied ones...

First let me say that yes, its heavier than cheaper irons but I think this actually helps 'press' out the wrinkles and pushing it back and forth isnt an issue for me with the weight - and I am not bench pressing it. However, if you need a light iron because you have minimal hand strength this wouldnt be a good choice. It holds a boat-load of water so you aren't filling it all the time. I just LOVE that. You can vary the steam and there is an auto-clean feature using the steam. The iron is also meant to use tap water, not anything special...

I have to say I iron now - and unlike my last iron where I would have to make pass after pass to get out a wrinkle, with this iron usually one pass is enough on regular weight clothes so ironing is actually quicker.

Rowenta is a very good quality name and a long standing company known for great irons... will every single iron come off the assembly line absolute perfection? probably not but I feel sure it is the individual iron and not the whole line because I think this has been a trouble free and great iron.

I love my new Rowenta iron! 5
This is my third Rowenta iron and each one is more improved than the last. What I love about the DX-8800 is the larger water tank and the weight of the iron. I use steam a lot and hardly have to fill up the tank. The heaviness of it makes ironing easier. I also like that it has a strong burst of steam and the vertical steam option. The cost of it is higher than most, but I feel is well worth it. I hope to use it for many years to come. I would strongly recommend this iron to anyone.

Amazon.com Product Description
Lightweight and stylishly designed, this household iron produces steam without dripping, spitting, or leaking, even at low temperatures. The unit's Spray Mist system dampens fabric to aid in removing wrinkles from heavy fabrics and for setting creases. In addition, its Shot of Steam function provides an extra burst of steam to deeply penetrate and smooth out stubborn wrinkles. Holding the iron in a vertical position allows for using it as a steamer on hanging garments or drapes.

For safety and convenience, the iron offers Motion Smart automatic shut-off. With the iron plugged in, the power indicator will light steadily. If the iron gets left in a horizontal position or accidentally tipped over, it will automatically stop heating after 30 seconds. If the iron gets left in a vertical position (on its heel rest), the iron will automatically turn off after 15 minutes. In both scenarios, the power indicator will blink to show that the iron has stopped heating and will continue to blink until the iron gets unplugged or reset. To reset the iron, move it back and forth and allow it to reheat for two minutes. The iron measures 11-3/8 by 4-5/8 by 5-3/4 inches.

Customer Reviews

Just okay...3
We've had this iron for about a year and I am looking for something new because it just doesn't perform very well. It is very lightweight (I'd prefer something a little heavier) and doesn't seem to get hot enough for most of my ironing tasks. The steam does work well and I haven't had many leaks.

What a Bargain!5
I was looking for an inexpensive iron to use while away at school. I am very particular about my ironing, so I wanted something good. I looked at irons in the $30-$50 range but decided to give this one a chance.
It's fantastic. Don't be fooled by it's light weight. It works almost as well as a professional iron.

I have only had it a week, so I will try and update this review after I've had it for some months.

Iron wasn't what picture shows3
The iron is light and handle works perfect for me, but do not like the fact that I have to unplug the iron everytime I finish using it.
I use for quilting and am always ironing, so hence once you do shut it off, it doesn't go off, have to unplug it. And of course it is not what the picture shows at all.

Amazon.com Product Description
Stylishly designed, this household iron produces steam without dripping, spitting, or leaking, even at low temperatures. The unit's Spray Mist system dampens fabric to aid in removing wrinkles from heavy fabrics and for setting creases. In addition, its Shot of Steam function provides an extra burst of steam to deeply penetrate and smooth out stubborn wrinkles. For safety, the iron offers three-way Motion Smart automatic shut-off. Other details include a nonstick soleplate for smooth gliding, simple thumb-tip controls on top of the iron, a Soft Touch grip for comfort, and a self-clean function for longer lasting steam performance. A complimentary water cup for ease of use in filling the water hole comes included. The iron measures approximately 12 by 5 by 6 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Does a Real Man iron?4
Well, I'm here to testify that this Real Man does ironing - mainly because my wife lets me. As a matter of fact, it's one of my regular chores every weekend after doing the laundry.

When the power cord of our previous iron began to demonstrate a disconcerting hotness at its point of attachment to the device, my wife, alarmed at the prospect of my imminent electrocution, thought it time to toss it in favor of this SUNBEAM STEAM MASTER MODEL 4211, purchased with an agreeably small amount of my money only two days ago. I'm a lucky fella to be on the receiving end of such thoughtful consideration.

Weighing in at roughly 1.75 lbs, the Sunbeam is heavier than the last, a vintage Black & Decker. But since I've taken up working out in the Y's gym on weekends - after the Honey-Do list is completed, of course - I'll soon be able to lift it without grunting too much. The Teflon soleplate glides easily over clothing, mostly my cheap cotton and cotton/polyester blend shirts, though not with the same slipperiness as the old iron. (I don't understand why that should be. Maybe the fabrics have gotten too worn over the years.) The hole for the water reservoir is perhaps a bit small to pour into accurately, especially if you're dizzy from chore-induced fatigue, but Sunbeam thoughtfully provides a nifty plastic cup with a pointy spout, the 8-ounce capacity of which charges the reservoir to the "max fill" line. The heat and steam controls with little, protruding knobs are especially easy to finger manage even with digits worked to the bone. The "spray mist" and "shot of steam" buttons are large and prominent - perhaps too much so as even gripping the handle with my not-large hands accidently tripped the former button a couple of times, resulting in a spritz of water that'll one day scare the cat if she gets too close to the action. The power cord, reinforced at the end which attaches to the iron itself, enters the device through a swiveling do-hickey (the technical term), a feature that'll likely prevent the hot wire that doomed its predecessor. There's a "Motion Smart" Auto Off Indicator that ostensibly blinks when the iron is plugged in and in a horizontal position for 30 seconds, or 15 minutes upright. I timed the shorter interval with a stopwatch - 31 seconds on my unit. Someday, I may have the opportunity to benefit from and verify the longer if I pass out during a particularly strenuous stint at the board.

Finally, the restful aqua green color of the iron's upper body doesn't clash with my apron.

Now, you Neanderthal macho studs that think I'm a 21st Century Sensitive Male wimp, consider this. My wife is happy doing the outdoor gardening chores that I despise. So, while she (and you) are outside getting hot, sweaty, and filthy, I'm inside the air conditioned house and, while admittedly doing the sissy ironing, am watching the ball game on the tube - or maybe the film adaptation of a Jane Austen novel. Of course, there's enough room on the ironing board to balance a longneck - or perhaps my favorite yogurt smoothie. And occasionally, when my wife comes in and begs to press a garment or two, I say "No thanks, sweetie." Yup, this SUNBEAM STEAM MASTER fits in well with my lifestyle.

P.S. 9-11-06: Almost 17 months after writing the original review, I'm still as pleased with this iron now as I was back then. And, contrary to more recent reports, it doesn't leak!

Classic Style Iron5
I have had this for 1.5 years and it works wonderfully. Doesn't drip, you can clean it and it does a good job. Automatically shuts off if you forget about it. Excellent product. I highly recommend it, but if you are being nostalgic, get it in black.

Better than Rowenta5
I love this iron. I had a Rowenta that didn't do half the job, was three times the price, and committed suicide by jumping off the ironing board. Disgusted, I picked up this little gem and I am delighted. It's light weight, but feels solid. It generates copious amounts of steam, heats up fast, stays on for a decent amount of time (before automatically shutting off), and best of all, is stable on its rear end. The Rowenta kept tipping over, was heartless about shutting itself off, and wasn't nearly as nimble and efficient as this lovely little iron.

Why pay more?

Changes a Chore into just a Quick Step in Getting Ready for the Day5
I hadn't bought a steam iron in fifteen years. I gave mine away before moving to China in 2002 and upon returning to America in 2005 I needed to buy a new one. In the past I would choose an iron based on a nice hefty weight, simplicity, traditional appearance, presence of a safety switch, and a good brand name. I was more than a little confused to find the featherweights with Jetson-like appearances and retractable cords available on the store shelves. Even after reading all of the boxes and comparing the floor-models I just didn't feel confident on the way home with my new purchase.
I have been extremely happy over the past year with my Sunbeam Steam Master Iron. I'm a big steam guy and really like that this model has a huge water tank. No more refilling halfway through the project. The iron heats up very quickly and even though it's very light it stays uniformly hot and has a good substantial feel in my hand. The controls are all at the top of the handle and easily accessible by my thumb while operating. The no stick surface has been great. I had had some bad luck with a no stick surface in the past; but this one has really been great. The only feature that I don't like is the retractable cord; so I fold the cord and stick it through the handle when I'm done using it. The few times that I've become distracted, walked away while ironing and then bolted back into the bedroom expecting to find it ablaze; I've been relieved to see the amber light blinking on the handle telling me that it has shut itself off. All things considered, this has been a great product. Show me one that will iron clothes without me and I'll switch.

finally, a good iron5
i've bought several irons in the last few years, looking for one that actually takes creases out of cloth. when the least worthless finally broke, i read through the reviews here on amazon, crossed my fingers, and ordered.

so far, i really like this iron. i was a bit concerned that it was so lightweight (i know many people complain about a heavy iron, but weight really does make ironing easier and faster), but, once the water tank is filled, the iron has a nice useful heft. there's a good amount of steam on even moderately hot settings; the shot of steam is steam and not a dribble of water; the spray mist covers a good area of cloth. and, most importantly, the iron actually removes creases and wrinkles! even on my linen blends--and does so with only one or two passes! i got my ironing done in half the time it took me with my old iron (a supposedly good brand).

the temperature contol dial being on top of the iron was the deciding factor in my purchase, and it's wonderful. i don't know why there aren't more models designed this way (when i'm especially annoyed with an appliance, i wonder if domestic appliances aren't deliberately designed to be awkward and inefficient because women are more likely to use them--but of course, that's silly). filling the iron is much simpler and faster than any other iron i've owned, since the opening into the tank is large and free of blockages.

even the rather blunt nose hasn't been the problem i thought it might be, it gets into seams and cuffs just fine.

i was prepared to spend much more than i did, which is yet another reason to like this iron.

if you cringe at the idea of spending more than $150 dollars for a good iron (or even $50), you'll love this one.

Good Quality and Features for the Price4
I chose this model to replace my refurbished Rowenta that could not be repaired for less than the price of a new one. The Rowenta had lots of little annoying problems, so I decided to try a different brand, and I'm glad I did. This iron has all the same features as the Rowenta and more, and it doesn't have the problems the Rowenta had. I sew, so I need a powerful steam function and it delivers. The steam reservoir has a large opening that is so easy to fill. I don't know why other models don't have this feature that saves so much time and mess. The retractable cord is nice, and the iron is heavy, which is a plus. Why would you want some lightweight iron that you have to press on to get wrinkles out? This just glides over wrinkles without added effort. This model is every bit as good as the Rowenta for much less money. The only disappointment is that it is not dripless as stated. It drips LESS, but it's not dripless. I'd recommend it, though.
