pretty and PINK!!4
i had read on another site how much people regretted purchasing this iron, and for a couple of weeks, i was scared to buy it.. but, today, my loverly mom was shopping with some friends and picked one up for me to try out. and, honestly - tonight - i was almost afraid to try it out -- it had the dreaded auto-shut-off and the retractable cord.. but, i decided that it WAS pink, afterall - and i was willing to make allowances for that. i even made mom open it up, but there it was in all its shiny and pink glory. we just sat and stared at it for a minute.. and then i plugged it in, and started to dry-iron (with a spray bottle of water) a particularly annoying-to-iron-but-lovely-fabric dress. lovely. then, i was trying to press the pieces of a new dress i was working on. the first dress i'd ironed was 100% cotton, and the dress i'm making is some kind of polyester and.. well, the dry ironing just wasn't working. sooo.. i did the one thing that mom has always forbade us to do with her irons over the years.. i poured some (a tiny bit, in case i had to drain it out) water into it and put it on steam. KAAA-POW!! lovely creases, and no wrinkles. honestly, my grandmother ironed and took in laundry all her married life until about two years ago, and her professional iron didn't do a better job! YAY!! i was on a roll, and it steamed my favorite linen work dress as if it were just yawning at the end of a hard day!!! i don't know if the people that had tried this iron before tried the steam option - and if not, i'd give it a second try! :) i would have given it all the stars possible - but i think it should have been pink all over - including the cord.. but, that's just me. :)

I purchased this iron at a retail store. I was looking for a new iron because I decided not to have my work clothes professionally laundered any more. My wife doesn't iron so it's all me, and I refused to use the 15 year old iron one of us brought into the marriage. Anyway, I was looking at irons, and my daughter went gaga over the pink (breast cancer support) iron. Heck, I don't care what color it is as long as it works well. Right? I'm secure in my manhood! Anyway, it worked circles around the old iron, so I retired oldie but goody in the cabinet. I have used the Sunbeam for about a year now. The other day, I was ironing a new set of curtains I was about to install in the bedroom (Using a drill, hammer and screws. See manhood here?), when about 2/3 of the way through the job, the iron handle became very hot. Now this was the longest time I had used the iron, as I usually only iron one or two garments, two to three times a week, so I thought maybe it was normal. As I finished the curtains, I put the iron on the board, and went to get my shirt I was planning on wearing that day, and came back to find the iron wasn't very hot. I thought maybe the auto shutoff, which by the way always worked like a charm, had kicked in. So I moved it around, and waited. It never heated up again. I ended up getting the 15 year old iron out, now 16 years old, and finishing my shirt. I have tried to plug it in a couple of times since with no luck.
Bottom line, it worked great while it worked. Never leaked, or rusted, or left any white residue, but I figure a [...] iron should last more than a year. Looking at the other reviews, it appears you are gambling when you buy this item.
